The ~anterior~ and lingual surface of the |epiglottis| is curved forward, toward the |tongue|. The surface is covered at its upper, free part by |mucous membrane| which is reflected onto the sides and root of the |tongue|, forming a median and two lateral folds. The lateral folds are partially attached to the wall of the |pharynx| (throat).
